Fay Lee grew up in Escambia County in South Alabama, and always had a talent for drawing. She now lives in New Hampshire where she is a member of the Artisans Gallery of Tilton and the York Art Association (ME). She participates in art shows and competitions in the Northeast. She took painting classes in New York from Joe McDowell of Nyack, N.Y., and in Montgomery took classes and workshops from Joe Robinson of Destin, Florida, Deborah Gibson of Alexander City, AL, Ann Calagaz of Mobile, and Jim Lewis of Olympia, Washington, and from local instructors in Montgomery, AL (Donnave Lindsey, Connie Lewis, Clark Walker, Virginia Kelley, Sharon Yavis, Shirley Baird, and Marguerite Edwards.) She has been in juried shows with the York Art Association (ME), the Newburyport Art Association (Regions Bank/Montgomery Art Guild (AL), the Museum of Fine Arts/Montgomery Art Guild(AL), Society of Arts and Crafts (AL), Selma Art Guild (AL) and Elmore County Art Guild (AL), as well as the Experimental Artists of Alabama juried show at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. She has been in group shows with the WAOAPOA Art Group at Alabama State University in Montgomery (AL), Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City (AL), Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia (AL), and High Cotton in Alexander City, AL, and at the Coliseum Boulevard Branch of the Montgomery (AL) Public Library System. She has, also, been in shows with the Yancey Avenue Gallery in Montgomery, AL. Several years ago, she had a painting in an invitational show entitled "Alabama Landscapes" at the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, AL, which then went on tour around Alabama for six months. Fay realized early on that she could draw and paint but was never encouraged to pursue this talent. She took classes while living in New York and knew this was something she wanted to pursue. She has been painting in oil and acrylic since 1978 and started painting in watercolor in 1987. She, also, works in pastels, mixed media, collage, and pen & ink. She does local and regional art shows, and has occasional one-woman shows. She did many one-woman and group shows in Alabama and since moving to NH, she had a show at the Bank of New Hampshire in Wolfeboro Falls in 2005, and she had two shows at the Tuftonboro, NH, Library in 2004 and 2005, as well as a two-woman show at the Wolfeboro Library in 2007. She has won many awards at various art shows, including "Best of Show” twice, and has paintings in collections throughout the United States and in several other countries, including Germany, France, England, Hungary, Luxembourg and Japan. She is or has been a member of York Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, Durham Art Association, Manchester Art Association, Black Bear Art Association, the Society of Arts and Crafts, Experimental Artists of Alabama, Montgomery Art Guild, Elmore County Art Guild, Shelby County Art Association, Eastern Shore Art Association, and the WAOAPOA Art Group. She sells her work through the Artisans Gallery of Tilton, NH, SAC's Gallery in Montgomery, AL, and at local and regional shows in the Northeast. Through the Volunteer & Information Center and the Junior League of Montgomery, Fay was nominated for Volunteer of the Year for 2002 by the Radio Reading Service for the Blind and by SAC's Gallery. There were three corporate awards, two awards to organizations, two special awards and four individual awards. Fay was selected for the 2002 Arts Volunteer of the Year Award.
